Something Old, Something New

The Norfolk Southern James River Bridge was built in 1897 & 1900 by Southern Railway. It goes over a part of Mayo Island, and it runs under a portion of the Manchester Floodwall Observation area in Richmond, Virginia. At the northern end one can see modern condominiums, Vista On The James.

The floodwall in Richmond, Virginia was completed in 1995. After several floods in the 70's and 80's, Richmond finally had this 3.2 mile floodwall built along the south banks of the James River.
