Holiday Poinsettia
No flower says Christmas like the beautiful poinsettia. There are over 100 varieties of Poinsettias. Poinsettias received their name after Joel Roberts Poinsett, who introduced the plant in the United States in 1828. Poinsett was a botanist, physician and the first U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. December 12th is Poinsettia Day, which marks the death of Joel Roberts Poinsetti in 1851. At one point they were only available in red. We now see pink, white, salmon and multi-color poinsettia. Ironically I decided to visit a florist and garden center in Richmond, Virginia, where I was able to capture images of several Poinsettias.
