Pink Water Lilies

Water lilies are a freshwater plant that is native to tropical parts of the world. Most water lilies have rounded, notched, waxy-coated leaves on long stalks. Some water lilies bloom in the early morning and some open in the evening to catch pollinators. I was delighted to see these pink and white water lilies open in the afternoon at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia.

Maiden ornamental grass is a favorite landscape border. On this fall day I was searchin for the last of autumn colors and the rows of ornamental grass caught my eye at the Arboretum in Richmond, Virgina. On this fall afternoon the sun illuminated the blades of grass with a silvery effect.

Pink Explosion

Globe Amaranth plants are annuals but will reseed itself for years. They grown 6 to 12 inches hight with thick green stems. The flower heads are clusters of florets tht resemble large clover flowers. They range in colors of pink, white and lavender. They are also call "explosion of colors". This border of pink explosion caught my eye on a late summer afternoon at Lewis Ginter Botantical Garden in Richmond, Virginia

Red Sun is a variety of sunflower that produces vibrant red petals with a dark brown center. The Red Sun sunflower is an annual that grows from seed up to 6 feet tall.

Green Reflections

The green plants including this snake plant have created abstract reflections. This day I stopped in the conservatory at Lewis Ginter Botantical Garden in Richmond, Virginia and this abstract reflection in the water caught my eye. The snake plant brought back memories of my mother having several of these plants that lasted for years. Snake plants are perennials that can grow from 8 inches to 12 feet high. They have sword-like and stiff leaves that grow in an upright postion.

Sunflower symbolize adoration, loyalty and longevity. Sunflowers are know for being happy flowers, and their name is derived from the sun.

Hardy Orange Tree

These hardy oranges had the appearance of lemons. I discovered that this hardy orange tree on the grounds of Tuckahoe Plantation in Goochland, Virginia. The hardy orange is is Poncirus trifoliata, but commonly called hardy orange and is in the citrus tree family.

Pollinating

Honeybees are also pollinators of gerber daisies. I was able to capture this honey bee on this bright yellow gerber daisy at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia

Sunflowers are known for being happy flowers, making them a wonderful gift to bring joy to someone's day . Sunflowers symbolize, adoration, loyalty and the sun.

Mimosa Tree Bloom

Mimosa trees are smalldeciduous tree with puffy pink flowers and a fast growth rate. It is an Asian species trees that is commonly grown in the southern part of the U.S.A. The mimosa blooms are pink, silky and delicate; and its leaves have a fern like appearance. The biggest downside of the mimosa is its invasive potential. The seedpods of the mimosa tree hangon after the foliage drops, giving a messy throughout the winter. At one point I wanted a mimosa tree in my yard, until I relized this was an invasive weed. On this summer evening I wanted to capture the beauty of this tree with its deep green fern like leaves.
