Sunset Over Old Point Comfort Marina

The Marina at 37 North, formerly known as Old Point Comfort Marina is located on the now decommissioned Fort Monroe Army Base, which became a National Park in 2011. The marina can accommodate 300 vessels up to 50 feet in length. The marina is located in Hampton, Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. It is a favorite location to view colorful sunsets.

On this early spring morning the marsh along Taskinas Creek still reflects its winter golden brown color. The Red and green canoes wait for warmer spring days on the wooden rack. Taskinas Creek is located at York River State Park, in James City County, Virginia. York River State Park has over 25,536 acres along the York River, where Taskinas Creek is a small tributary of the York River. On warmer days, visitors can kayak or canoe along this creek.

Maymont Park is a 100 acre Victorian estate and public park. One can find an array of autumn colors from the many sugar maple trees that line the paths. Dooley, a wealthy Richmond lawyer and philanthropist and his wife Sallie, completed their Gilded Age estate on a site high above the James River. Their wishes were to leave Maymont to the people of Richmond, Virginia after their death

Cycling Through The Tulip Field

Burnside Farms in Nokesville, Virginia host an annual Spring Festival with over two million tulips and daffodils planted. The spring festival last approximately three weeks, all weather dependent. On this April evening a powder blue Huffy Nel Lusso Cruiser bicycle sits among rows of colorful tulips.

Reflective Sunset

A subtle golden hour sunset reflects in the waters at the Marina at 37 North, formerly known as Old Point Comfort Marina on Fort Monroe. The now decommissioned Fort Monroe Army Base is now a National Park, where the marina can currently accommodate 300 boats up to 50 feet in length. On this spring evening the boats are docked in their slips, and the sunset is reflected in the calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay, in Hampton, Virginia.

Fall Foliage Along The Moormans River

On any day the Moormans River is low allowing hikers to walk across the rocks. After a recent rain, the water in the Moormans River was rushing, which allowed me to create this silky look of the river flowing over the rocks. The fall colors in trees along the banks of the Moormans River added to this entire serene location in Albemarle County, Virginia. The Moormans River is one of the scenic rivers in Virginia.

The Moormans River is a tributary of the Rivanna River, located in Albemarle County, Virginia. Normally the Moormans River is low with plenty of rocks accessible to cross for a hike. The Moormans River is one of the many scenic rivers of Virginia. After leaving Sugar Hollow Reservoir, I stopped on Sugar Hollow Road to photograph what was now a rushing river surrounded by fall foliage on the trees. It was nice to park right on the road and position my camera and tripod right at the banks of this flowing river.

The Williamsburg Inn

The Williamsburg Inn is a historic luxury hotel in Colonial Williamsburg. It was built in 1937 and has undergone a few restorations. The hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were guest there in 1957 and 2007. Their visits were for the 350th and 400th anniversaries when the British landed in America. This scenic location is a must visit to see the glowing holiday lights and this mirrored reflection of the Williamsburg Inn.

Sunset Over Swift Creek Reservoir

Swift Creek Reservoir is a 1700-acre manmade lake in Chesterfield Count, Virginia. It provides 20 per cent of Chesterfield County’s water supply. It was built in 1965 to be a public water supply for surrounding communities. There are two major developments that are built on the waterfront of the reservoir, Brandermill and Woodlake. Public access is somewhat limited to Swift Creek Reservoir. Lake access is through the waterfront communities. Canoes, kayaks and sailboats are popular on Swift Creek Reservoir. Visitors and the communities can enjoy a meal looking out over the lake in one of several lakefront restaurants Swift Creek Reservoir at Brandermill in Sunday Park is a favorite location to enjoy sunsets.

Canola Farm

Just one hour west of Richmond, Virginia the farmers grew acres of canola also known as rapeseed. It was an amazing site to see acres of yellow flowers on Hungary Town Road and Cottage Road in Blackstone, Virginia. Canola is a crop that has been around for hundreds of years. Some farmers in Virginia previously grew wheat in their fields. Some decided to adapt with the times and grow canola. Rapeseed gives farmer an additional winter crop option. After rapeseed harvest, farmers plant soybean in their fields. Rapeseed is a cousin of canola oil. Rapeseed oil has a higher fatty acid content is not used for cooking. The seeds are crushed into oil that is used as a lubricant in various ways. Industries use rapeseed oil as a lubricant in the engines of big ships. It is estimated that 90 percent of rapeseed oil in the U.S. is imported. I returned to Blackstone the following year, only to learn that the farmers did not plant rapeseed. They informed me that if was not profitable.
