Celebrating African-America Women in Dance
The theme for 2016 Black History Month at the White House was “Honoring the Past While Celebrating the Present”. On February 8, 2016, First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed 51 local Washington D.C. students to the White House. The students were treated to a day-long dance workshop. The students worked with iconic leaders in dance, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Judith Jamison, Debbie Allen, the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Virginia Johnson, and Hip-Hop choreographer Fatima Robinson. That afternoon First Lady Michelle Obama joined Judith Jamison, Debbie Allen, Virginia Johnson, and Fatima Robinson for a panel discussion led by La La Anthony.
