Newport News Shipbuilding Celebrates Keel Laying of Submarine Delaware SSN 791

On Saturday, April 30, 2016, the Newport News Shipbuilding celebrated the Keel-Laying of Virginia -Class Submarine Delaware with sponsor Dr. Jill Biden. During this ceremony Jill Biden's initials were welded onto a steel plate that will be permanently affixed to the submarine. This will symbolize her lifelong relationship with the shipbuilders and the crew.

Other guest included, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware, Rep Randy Forbes, Rep. Bobby Scott, Vice Adm Joseph Tofalo, commander of Submarine Forces Atlantic, Matt Mulherin, president of Newport News Shipbuilding, and Jeffrey Geiger, president of General Dynamics Electric Boat. Dr. Biden's guest was her grandson Hunter Biden
