President Obama - 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughters traveled to Selma, Alabama to honor the 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and to honor many other unsung heroes that crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The President spoke to a crowd of 40,000, including Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Terri Sewell and several other guest. This event was held on Saturday , March 7, 2015. Also in the crowd was 103 year old Amelia Boynton Robinson, the oldest living Foot Soldier.
The President signed HR 431 that awarded Congressional gold medals to the Foot Soldiers who participated in Bloody Sunday, Turn-Around Tuesday, an the final March from Selma to Montgomery for the Voting Rights Act of 1965
